Oh God I'm My Mom

Greetings y'all, I hope your holiday season has been joyous and full of fun times so far. Mine, well it's been a time of reflection and during this reflection I've realized my worst nightmare has occurred.... I've turned into my mother. Now don't get me wrong I love my mom-she's awesome. Honestly she's the only person, outside my grandmother, who can cook, bake, sew, and craft with sheer perfection. In fact, she's kind of a big deal. You must be thinking 'Your mom sounds pretty snazzy Stephanie- why wouldn't you want to be like her?'.

The truth is I'd love to be like my mom in certain areas such as sewing and crafting, but I always swore I'd never become like her within the kitchen domain. Growing up I'd appreciate the food spreads she'd create-and oh can she create some food spreads during the holidays-but I'd always think she was crazy putting in so much effort when it can easily be ordered or bought at the store. In fact, I'd much more prefer to sit my butt on the couch and catch up on the latest Rescue 911 episode. However, times have changed and I found myself this pass weekend doing something I sworn off from ever doing- I cooked multiple meals and desserts for myself and the significant other.

Yes, most of you do this on a daily basis but for me this is progress. I am much more of a cereal, chocolate Malt-O-Meal, and/or yogurt kind of girl (this is actually what I eat most days during the week). My attention span is not long enough to spend extended periods of time in the kitchen hence I rarely ever cook for myself. Yet as I said earlier this is exactly what I did this weekend. You must be curious what exactly I made that has me in such awe- well here's the menu:

Saturday
Cocktail weenies
Breakfast tacos (Mine are intensive and huge)
Sunday
Chicken & Dumplings
Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies
Today (Tuesday)
Lemon Bars

Ok this menu may not impress many of you but hey for a non-cook like me it was like graduating from Kindergarten. On top of all this cooking I actually cleaned the kitchen so it was spotless after each meal-another trait my mother did which always confused the hell out of me. Some additional 'Oh my God, I'm My Mother' moments/traits: 1) I have a set location for every utensil and dish in my kitchen 2) I keep an assortment of frozen veggies and fruit in my freezer for just in case situations 3) Things sitting in/around the sink drive me up the wall 4) I have a set of everyday cooking pans/pots and special occasion cooking pans/pots.

Well there you have it- my transformation into my domestic mother. It might not be as entertaining as an episode of 'How I Met Your Mother' but I think I could totally create a sitcom about these realizations (which I'm 99.1% sure is a girl's biggest nightmare) titled 'Holy Shit, When Did I Turn Into Mom?'. It'd be a comedy classic.

Please comment and let me know what your 'Oh my God When Did I Turn Into My Mother?' moments.
